4 Proofs of Splendid Draupadi intelligence

DIce game episode: Sabha Parva

Draupadi has been one of the prime characters of Mahabharata story. However, she is remembered more for her different type of birth, for her five husbands and for the outstanding feat at her Swayamvar. Another incidence is also there where Draupadi is remembered by the Mahabharata story analysts and that is her role in the kurukshetra war. Most often the thing is forgotten that Draupadi remained one of the most intelligent characters of entire Mahabharata. Her intelligence is quite evident in the Dice game episode of Mahabharata story. In fact, there are four distinctive situations, in the story, where her high level of intellect is explicit. Here are those four areas:

When in Mahabharata story, Draupadi was called by a Sudra woman from women’s chamber, after listening what happened in the Sabha, the first and the only question she asked was – “Ask Yudhisthira, who lost first, himself or me.” A lost person losses everything and he is left out with no other possessions. Yudhisthira although was so much knowledgeable, but his lack of intelligence is prominent here. When Shakuni challenged him to bet on Draupadi and free himself and his brothers, he out of emotion, lost all his intelligence and did what he was suggested, although he had no right to bet Draupadi then, since he himself had already lost.

Draupadi, didn’t loses her nerves and asks the only proper question that really made a question mark to all. In fact, all the bookish knowledgeable and respectable persons in the Sabha, including Bhishma, felt confused with the question and Yudhisthira’s reaction in the Mahabharata story. To all, Yudhisthira was one who can never make a mistake in the rules of righteousness. He betted on Draupadi, and on the other hand the question of Draupadi was highly intellectual and justified. This confused all and placed them in dilemma – whether Yudhisthira, the Just, wrongly did what he did!

After Dushasana failed to unclothe her in the Sabha, the side of Dharma became weightier that was earlier made feeble by the bookish righteousness sense of Yudhisthira. So, it was time to fix the ground and Draupadi exactly did what was needed at that point of time in Mahabharata Story. She showed how much intelligent she was and how much spontaneous her intelligence was by her next approach. She stopped Dushasana and sought blessing from all the senior and aged ministers, assembled in the Sabha. This very act reminded everyone about the fact that she was the eldest daughter-in-law of Kurus.

She also reminded with that simple spontaneous behaviour that by humiliating her, the Kurus are defaming themselves. The reaction of the same was also instant, as Dhritarashtra stopped all and wished to give boon to Draupadi.

In boon, Draupadi initially saved Yudhisthira, so that he can free all the other brothers. In second boon, she asked to release all the brothers. Thus she saved all the Pandavas with her outstanding intelligence. This also proved her chaste, which was put on stake by the filthy Kauravas, during dice game.

The fourth point was even more intelligent one. When Dhritarashtra wished to give Draupadi a third boon, Draupadi stopped him saying that a Kshatriya woman cannot seek more than two boons, as per the rule. With this intelligence, Draupadi proofed her righteousness then and for that Dhritarashtra gladly returned everything of Pandavas that has been snatched. In entire Mahabharata Story, such an intelligent woman could not be found at any instance. Among all characters even, being righteous to action, none except Krishna of Dwarka, can be found to be so much intelligent in action.

First proof of Draupadi Intelligence in Mahabharata Story

When in Mahabharata story, Draupadi was called by a Sudra woman from women’s chamber, after listening what happened in the Sabha, the first and the only question she asked was – “Ask Yudhisthira, who lost first, himself or me.” A lost person losses everything and he is left out with no other possessions. Second proof of Excellent Draupadi Intelligence from Mahabharata Story

She also reminded with that simple spontaneous behaviour that by humiliating her, the Kurus are defaming themselves. The reaction of the same was also instant, as Dhritarashtra stopped all and wished to give boon to Draupadi.

Third and Outstanding proof of Draupadi intelligence

In boon, Draupadi initially saved Yudhisthira, so that he can free all the other brothers. In second boon, she asked to release all the brothers. Thus she saved all the Pandavas with her outstanding intelligence. This also proved her chaste, which was put on stake by the filthy Kauravas, during dice game.

Final Proof from Mahabharata story

The fourth point was even more intelligent one. When Dhritarashtra wished to give Draupadi a third boon, Draupadi stopped him saying that a Kshatriya woman cannot seek more than two boons, as per the rule. With this intelligence, Draupadi proofed her righteousness then and for that Dhritarashtra gladly returned everything of Pandavas that has been snatched.
